Translation: heritage
Tuletorn is very proudly an Estonian brewery, and nothing makes us prouder than to cooperate deeply with Estonian producers to bring their unique flavours and lived experience to the world.
Estonia is, and always has been an agricultural country - there's wisdom in that, and there's heritage in that.
That's Pärand.
For this beer we've teamed up with one of our favourite farms in the whole country - the legendary @jahujaan and their farm located nearby Haapsalu, Western Estonia.
A family farm for generations, they're also notable for being the first to grow spelt since Estonian independence so it's safe to say they know more than a little about their land.
We've brewed this to tell a little of their story, and explore that of their land. It's a low ABV light lager brewed with 40% flaked spelt grown themselves, giving a delicious fresh character to the malt base.
After all, farm work is hard work, and at the end of the day you want something to quench your thirst.
As an added twist, doing things yourself is at the heart of country life and this even includes making your own beer, back in the day. When discussing this project, one fond memory that came up was of brewing beer with their parents, and filtering the grain through juniper, and old Estonian practice.
We've taken this inspiration to heart and done exactly that - loading our mash tun full of juniper bushes straight from their land and filtering every precious drop of wort through - providing a delicate resiny, and slightly spicy character that has developed over patient lagering in tank.
This is their land, this is their heritage, and now this is their beer.
With this, we wish to raise a toast to those working the land everywhere
